Obituary for Edward Banks

Banks, Edward
On December 9, 1925, Edward Banks was given life and on January 5, 2019 it was his time to give it back. Peacefully, with his daughter Angela holding his hand and the caring support workers keeping him comfortable, he moved from this life to be with Joan, his wife of 70 years and family and friends who had gone before. He was the second youngest of eight who will all be waiting for him. His blue eyes will sparkle and his smile will shine brightly as he meets them. Born in Liverpool, England he experienced the war years and was evacuated, with his younger sister "Betty" to a farm, away from their family. Underaged, he signed up to serve in the Royal Navy in September 1943 until February 1947, keeping many painful memories to himself. He moved on to the Merchant Navy and went around the world. He married Joan, had a daughter Angela and in 1960 came to Canada. He was happy working all over Ontario for WIMPEY Construction as a Site Accountant. Memories of Florida, trips to England, the cottage, golf, Lawn bowling, bocce, dogs "Chien" and "Freeway" and fun with people made him smile. Singing and entertaining in Florida at Tree Lakes with Joan was special for them both. He will be missed but fondly remembered by family and friends in Canada, England and the United States.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville, ON on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of donations, sing a song, celebrate your own life and those who are a part of it and SMILE.
My thanks to the staff at Dufferin Oaks, Long Term Care, Shelburne, for your compassion, kindness, support and hugs over these difficult months. To family and friends who have continued to give messages and their time to help me through my losses, I thank you all.

A tree will be planted in memory of Edward in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. The annual dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com

Lynne Bell

My oldest (from age 5?) and dearest friend Angela, thinking of you today more than ever. Your Dad was such a lovely man, always making us so welcome along with your Mum, on our visits from Liverpool. Knowing how much he loved his UK Cadbury’s chocolate, we would take him some over and his eyes would twinkle with delight as he hid it away. In return, our first meal on arrival would be a delicious BBQ. We have so many happy memories of “the little man”. We are sending a photo of Ed with his new chocolate supply, taken on our last trip in 2016. Take care Angela. May your Dad rest in peace with your Mum, happily together again. Love and hugs from Lynne, her Mum, Dave, Kate and Alix. XX

Angela, thinking of you on the loss of your dad especially so soon after losing your mom. They are together again and smiling down proudly on their amazing daughter who cared for them so well over the years. Stay strong, smile at the memories and carry on. Huge hugs! Love, Deb
